AI.com Sells for $70M to Crypto.com CEO

In a move that's set a new benchmark for digital real estate, Kris Marszalek, the visionary behind Crypto.com, has acquired the highly coveted domain name AI.com for an astonishing $70 million. This landmark transaction, reportedly settled entirely in cryptocurrency with an undisclosed seller, eclipses all previous domain sales. The broker, Larry Fischer, is undoubtedly celebrating this historic deal.

Marszalek intends to unveil AI.com during the upcoming Super Bowl, positioning it as a hub for consumers seeking a personal AI agent. This innovative platform will offer functionalities ranging from messaging and app management to sophisticated stock trading. "Looking ahead a decade or two, artificial intelligence represents one of the most significant technological shifts of our era," Marszalek commented to the Financial Times.

This acquisition dramatically reshapes the landscape of premium domain names. The cryptocurrency sector, known for its ambitious investments, has once again demonstrated its willingness to spend big. Prior to AI.com, the record was held by CarInsurance.com, which sold for $49.7 million in 2010. Other notable high-value sales include VacationRentals.com ($35 million in 2007), Voice.com ($30 million in 2019), PrivateJet.com ($30 million), 360.com ($17 million), and Sex.com, which has fetched over $13 million on two separate occasions.

"There are simply no alternatives to truly exceptional assets like AI.com," stated Fischer. "When an opportunity like this arises, it may never reappear."

The ultimate financial success of such high-priced domain acquisitions remains a subject of debate. However, for Marszalek, who already presides over Crypto.com and has invested significantly in stadium naming rights, securing these two category-defining digital assets appears to be a strategic investment justifying the considerable outlay.
